Origin and history

The origins of the sanctuary are not fully clarified. The tradition attributes its building to the Templars and explains the name "Mț" in various ways: by an ancient Roman temple to Mercury in the place, or because the Virgin would have appeared on Wednesday. These explanations are transmitted as local legends.

Historically, sources point out that it is not known exactly who raised the building or since when the cult exists. The environment is mentioned as "Capul Mercoris" in a document on the donation of land to the Templars. The temple conserves a primitive core of a unique ship with apse and was reformed in the XVII@-@ XIX centuries. The tradition places the origin of the great rosemary in 1601, as a thanksgiving for having rid the city of an epidemic.

"Our Lady of Mň, health and protection of your city, pray for us."
