What happened in Fatima
Between 13 May and 13 October 1917on a moor called Iria's covain the parish of Fatima (diocese of Leiria, Portugal), three children pastors -Lucia dos Santosten years old and their cousins Francisco y Jacinta Marto, of eight and seven - they said they had seen six times "a Lady dressed all in white, brighter than the Sun." The previous year, as they later said, they had appeared three times an Angel.
El 13 October 1917In the face of a crowd that the journalists present calculated between thirty and fifty thousand people, what happened was the title of the lay press in Lisbon the following day: "How the sun danced at noon in Fatima».
El 13 October 1930after eight years of canonical process, the Bishop of Leiria declared those visions credible and officially authorized the veneration.
And even today, more than a hundred years later, Fatima remains the place to discuss exactly what that Lady asked, if it was fulfilled, and what it means.
How this study is done, and why you can trust it
This module is built on primary sources downloaded and read, not on devotional repertories:
- The Memories of Sr Luciain the official edition of the Shrine of Fatima, cited with your page.
- **La Critical Documentation of Fatimawith the interrogations done en 1917the press of the time and the canon file.
- The documents of the Holy See, cross-checked on the flat text of vatican.va, including the full text of the secret published in 2000.
And it's written with four rules that don't break on any page:
1. Nothing is made up. Not a date, not a number, not a date. Which is not verified, said it's not. - and there's a whole page dedicated to it.
2. The text of its interpretation is always distinguished. What the seer wrote goes in one place; what the editor's notes, Cardinal Sodano, Cardinal Ratzinger or the divulgers say, in another, and always attributed to the one who signs it.
3. Tradition is not history. When something belongs to the devotional tradition and not to the documentary file, it is rotated.
4. God is worshipped; the Virgin is worshipped. and is asked for intercession - an intercession that leads to Christ. It is not a nuance of style: it is the distinction that Fatima's own texts scrupulously respect. In them, he who worships is the Angel, and worships the Most Holy Trinity.
And a warning that the Church itself puts
Fátima es una private disclosure. It is approved, and that means exactly three things, according to the formulation that the Holy See endorsed in 2000: that the message contains nothing against faith and good customs, que It is lawful to make it public, y que the faithful are authorized to give them their commitment prudently. And Cardinal Ratzinger added:
No Catholic is obliged to believe in Fatima. Whoever says it says more than the Church says.

What Fatima asks, in a line
After a hundred years of secrets, consecration and discussion, it is important to remember what the text itself repeats. in the six apparitions, without exception: pray the rosary every dayand offer the daily works for the conversion of sinners.
Benedict XVI said this way to Fatima in 2010:
And Pope Francis, on the day of the canonization of the pastures:
Is the advocation of the Virgin Mary of your people missing?
Si no encuentras la advocación mariana de tu ciudad o pueblo, cuéntanosla: la investigaremos para ubicarla y darla a conocer en este mapa del amor de la Madre por el mundo.
